REACTION OF MSA ON MEC’S ANNOUNCEMENT Motorsport South Africa (MSA), the controlling body of motorsport in the country, took notice of Gauteng’s Economic Development and Planning MEC, Mr Firoz Cachalia, announcement to cancel the Provincial Government’s International motorsport contracts beyond 2010. Mr Francois Pretorius, Managing Director of MSA, said whilst it is a huge disappointment for motorsport enthusiasts and the controlling body not to have an event (especially like the World Superbikes on home soil), it fully understands and is supportive of the Provincial Government’s stance to re-prioritise the budget in light of pressing issues facing them”, he said. MSA as the controlling body, once again urged promoters to work through and consult with the controlling body, prior to entering into any commercial agreements with rights holders of international motorsport. MSA was not party to the negotiations nor has it had sight of the contracts between the parties. The controlling body confirmed a round of the World Superbikes will be hosted at Kyalami on 16 May 2010.
